Cádiz president Manuel Vizcaíno plans January reinforcements rather than sacking manager Gaizka Garitano despite recent poor results in Segunda División.
Cádiz Eye Winter Transfer Window Fix as Vizcaíno Backs Garitano
Cádiz CF president Manuel Vizcaíno is looking to the January transfer window rather than the manager’s office for solutions to the club’s recent struggles.
Backing the Boss
Despite a dodgy run of form that’s got the Cadista faithful reaching for the worry beads, Vizcaíno is standing firmly behind Basque manager Gaizka Garitano. Instead of wielding the axe as many Spanish club presidents might be tempted to do, the Cádiz chief is focusing on bolstering the squad in the upcoming winter window.
The club’s sporting directors have identified specific weaknesses in the squad that need addressing, with the priority being strengthening rather than changing the gaffer. It’s a refreshing approach in an era when managers often get the old tin tack at the first sign of trouble.
Making Room in the Squad
To facilitate new arrivals, several current players have been earmarked for potential exits:
-
Dawda Camara - The loanee from Girona appears to be first on the chopping block. Cádiz splashed some serious bread to secure him ahead of Albacete and an English Championship side, but now they’re looking to terminate his loan early. This would require either Cádiz or his next destination to cover the salary difference agreed with Girona.
-
Defensive Departures - Garitano reportedly wants to move on centre-backs Pelayo Fernández (on loan from Rayo Vallecano) and Jorge Moreno (who only signed until 2028 this summer).
-
Roger Martí - The experienced striker, whose contract expires next summer, could also be shown the door.
Last Chance Saloon
The players mentioned aren’t completely brown bread yet, mind. They’ve got about six weeks before the January window opens to turn things around and convince the coaching staff they deserve to stay.
It’s a crucial period for Cádiz, who are clearly taking a calculated approach to their Segunda División campaign rather than making knee-jerk decisions. Whether this strategy pays off remains to be seen, but at least they’re giving Garitano the tools he needs rather than handing him his P45.
