Villarreal’s midfield maestro Santi Comesaña has caught the attention of Turkish side Besiktas, with the Istanbul club reportedly ready to make a winter move for the Spaniard.
Form That Demands Attention
It’s no surprise that Comesaña is attracting admiring glances from abroad. The Galician midfielder has been absolutely mustard this season, establishing himself as one of the standout performers in a Villarreal side currently sitting pretty in third spot in La Liga.
His box-to-box performances and technical ability have been central to the Yellow Submarine’s impressive campaign under Marcelino, and it seems clubs across Europe are starting to take notice.
Turkish Delight?
According to Turkish publication Haberturk, Besiktas have identified Comesaña as their primary target for the January window, with strengthening their midfield options the top priority. Word on the street is they’re preparing to table an offer for the Vigo-born talent in the coming weeks.
The Istanbul giants haven’t exactly been having a Adam and Eve of a time this season:
- Knocked out in the qualifying rounds of the Conference League
- Currently sitting sixth in the Süper Lig
- Nine points adrift of leaders Galatasaray
- Eight behind bitter rivals Fenerbahçe
The 14-time Turkish champions are desperate to close that gap in the second half of the season, and clearly view Comesaña as the man to help them do it.
Player Content at Villarreal
Despite the interest from Turkey, all signs point to Comesaña being happy right where he is. The midfielder only penned a contract extension last season, tying him to Villarreal until 2028, and he appears to have no intention of cutting that short.
When asked about the Besiktas interest, Comesaña was clear about his position: “I’m very comfortable here and enjoying this moment and a season like this.”
With Villarreal flying high in La Liga and Comesaña playing some of the best football of his career under Marcelino, it would take something special to prise him away from La Cerámica this January. Besiktas might have to look elsewhere to solve their midfield conundrum.
