Celta Vigo have moved swiftly to secure the long-term future of one of their brightest prospects, with right wing-back Javi Rueda penning a new deal that keeps him at Balaídos until 2029.
From academy prospect to first-team regular
The 23-year-old Málaga native has enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks at Celta. Initially joining the club’s B team in the 2023-24 campaign, Rueda got his first taste of top-flight football last May when he made his La Liga debut against Valencia in a 2-2 draw at Balaídos.
After spending last season on loan at Albacete where he caught the eye with some impressive performances, Rueda returned to Galicia this summer and has firmly established himself in Claudio Giráldez’s plans.
Despite missing three weeks through injury this term, the dynamic full-back has already racked up eleven appearances across all competitions, contributing one goal and three assists - numbers that speak to his attacking influence from the flank.
