Depor's José Ángel Fires Back: 'If We're Not Convincing, Imagine the Rest!'
Deportivo La Coruña midfielder José Ángel defends team's performance despite recent loss to Castellón, as they prepare to face Real Sociedad B this weekend.
Depor Captain Defends Team’s Form with Cheeky Response
José Ángel Jurado isn’t having any of the criticism coming Deportivo La Coruña’s way. The midfielder has come out swinging with a proper bit of irony following their recent defeat to Castellón that cost them top spot in LaLiga Hypermotion.
“If we’re not convincing, imagine the rest of the teams,” the Andalusian midfielder quipped, showing he’s not about to let one bad day at the office define their season so far.
Keeping Perspective
The Depor captain was keen to remind everyone that even during their impressive seven-game winning streak (five in the league and two in the cup), the team was constantly looking to improve. He’s clearly not having the knee-jerk reactions that often follow a disappointing result.
“We’re happy with the path we’re on,” José Ángel insisted, urging fans and pundits alike to appreciate what the team has accomplished thus far. He’s got a point too - Depor’s position near the top of the table is nothing to be sneezed at, especially when you consider some of the other promotion hopefuls who are nowhere near the top spots.
Personal Fitness Improving
On a more personal note, the midfielder shared that he’s feeling much better after overcoming the pubalgia (sports hernia) that kept him sidelined during the opening fixtures under manager Antonio Hidalgo.
“I’ve been training with the team for quite some time now,” he explained, adding that his match fitness improves with every game. It’s bread and butter stuff for professional footballers - nothing beats actual game time for getting back to your best.
Real Sociedad B Challenge
Looking ahead to Saturday’s clash with Real Sociedad B at Riazor, José Ángel isn’t taking anything for granted despite facing a reserve team. He acknowledged the visitors’ quality and technical ability, particularly their comfort on the ball and clear tactical identity.
However, he’s confident that Depor can neutralize their threats and capitalize on their own strengths. “We’ll try to counter all that and hurt them with our virtues, which are many,” he concluded with typical self-assurance.
If Deportivo can recapture their previous form, they’ll be looking to climb back to the top of the table. But they’ll need to be at their best against a young, technically gifted Sanse side who can play with freedom as the underdogs.
