Real Madrid Eyeing Summer Centre-Back Swoop as Xabi Gets Board Backing

Madrid's transfer plans revealed while Levante's managerial hunt faces setbacks with Thiago and Raúl turning down approaches. Girona and Betis also active in the market.

Madrid Planning Summer Defensive Reinforcement

The suits at the Santiago Bernabéu are keeping the faith with Xabi Alonso despite the recent wobbles, while simultaneously plotting their next transfer masterclass for the summer window.

According to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, speaking on Radio MARCA’s ‘Despierta San Francisco’ show, Real Madrid have already started the groundwork for bringing in a new centre-back come June. The European champions are sticking to their recent strategy of targeting free agents, so supporters should keep their mince pies on defenders whose contracts expire next summer.

Xabi Gets Vote of Confidence

Despite some dodgy results in recent weeks, the Madrid board aren’t reaching for the P45 just yet. Moretto confirms the club hierarchy wants to give Xabi Alonso proper time and backing to turn things around with his methods.

“The Real Madrid board doesn’t want to sack Xabi so easily,” Moretto revealed.

Levante’s Manager Hunt Hits Brick Wall

Down in the second tier, Levante’s search for a new gaffer has taken a couple of knocks. The Valencia-based outfit have apparently made approaches to both Thiago Alcántara and Real Madrid Castilla boss Raúl González, but both have given them the old ‘thanks but no thanks’.

Levante’s board will need to look elsewhere as they try to find the right man to lead their promotion charge.

Other La Liga Transfer Bits

  • Girona are eyeing up goalkeeping options with Livakovic potentially on his way out this winter. Villarreal’s Diego Conde and Egyptian stopper Mostafa Shobeir are on their radar.

  • Real Betis have identified Fabio Silva as a potential target to bolster their attacking options.

The January window is still a few weeks away, but the Spanish clubs are already busy behind the scenes sorting their shopping lists.
