Huesca Break Four-Month Curse to Escape Relegation Zone for Christmas

SD Huesca finally end their away day blues with crucial victory over Cultural Leonesa, virtually guaranteeing they'll spend Christmas outside the drop zone.

Huesca Finally Find Their Away Day Mojo

After being absolutely hammered 4-1 by Valladolid, Huesca arrived at their clash with Cultural Leonesa with the warning lights flashing like a Christmas tree. The pressure was well and truly on, but Bolo’s boys delivered when it mattered most, securing their first away win in nearly four months. Talk about leaving it late!

Heroes Emerge When Needed

Dani Jiménez, Ángel Pérez and Enol stepped up as the unlikely heroes as Huesca put in a proper shift against one of the division’s form teams. This wasn’t just any old three points - it was a double-whammy victory over a direct rival and away from the comfort of El Alcoraz.

The away drought had been a proper headache for the club, with their last success on their travels coming way back in August against Mirandés. That’s a long time to go without bringing home the bacon from your away days.

Christmas Shopping for Points

The timing couldn’t be better for Huesca, as this result virtually guarantees they’ll spend Christmas outside the relegation zone. Only a defeat against Racing combined with a series of other results would send them into the drop zone - about as likely as me turning down a mince pie this time of year.

For Huesca to drop into the bottom four, they’d need at least four teams below them to pick up points, which seems a tall order even by Segunda División standards.

Copa Chance to Shine

With the pressure valve released somewhat, Huesca can now approach Wednesday’s Copa del Rey fixture against Osasuna with a bit more freedom. The Primera División side will carry all the expectation, allowing Bolo to give his fringe players a run-out while keeping his main men fresh for their year-end clash with table-toppers Racing Santander.

Racing might be leading the pack, but they haven’t exactly been fortress-like in their performances, giving Huesca genuine hope of ending 2023 on another high note.

For a club that was staring down the barrel just a week ago, suddenly the Christmas turkey might taste a bit sweeter in Huesca this year.
