Sevilla's Stadium Dreams: Del Nido Carrasco Reveals New Sánchez-Pizjuán Timeline

Sevilla president confirms local authorities have approved preliminary stadium plans, with construction now targeted to begin in June 2027, as part of club's financial recovery strategy.

Sevilla FC’s ambitious stadium redevelopment plans are inching forward, albeit with a slight delay, as President José María del Nido Carrasco updated shareholders during Monday’s Annual General Meeting.

Stadium Plans Taking Shape

The Sevilla chief confirmed that both the Seville City Council and the Andalusian regional government have approved preliminary studies for the new Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán project. The full planning study will be submitted by the end of December, with approval expected in Q1 2026.

The timeline then looks like this:

  • Basic project completion: Q2 2026
  • Execution project: Q3 2026
  • Construction tender: Q1 2027
  • Building works to begin: June 2027 (a year later than initially planned)
  • Completion target: Three seasons from commencement

Del Nido Carrasco revealed that a “top-level company” is currently analyzing how best to utilize the nearly 50,000 square meters of commercial space the new stadium will feature. Crucially, he insisted that financing won’t be an issue, with external interest already present and the project expected to be self-funding through increased revenue streams.

Financial Overhaul in Progress

The stadium update came as part of a wider financial reset at Sevilla, with the president acknowledging the club posted losses exceeding €50 million. However, he described this as part of a necessary “economic-sporting regeneration process” that’s actually progressing “better and faster than expected.”

The numbers tell a proper tale:

  • Overall expenses reduced by €115m (from €280m to €165m)
  • Squad cost slashed from €200m to €85m
  • Seven new signings this season cost just €250,000 combined

Del Nido Carrasco pointed out that all seven new arrivals—including Odysseas, Azpilicueta, and Alexis Sánchez—collectively earn less than what the club was previously paying just for Suso. Bit of a liberty, that!

The club has secured €178m in financing to maintain liquidity during this adjustment period and expects to achieve budget equilibrium this season before returning to growth in 2026-27.

While the financial medicine tastes bitter, Sevilla’s board appears convinced their stadium plans and financial restructuring will eventually have Los Nervionenses back competing at the sharp end of Spanish football, rather than the dog and bone struggle they’ve endured recently.
