Valladolid Sack Almada After Oviedo Flirtation: 'We Can't Allow This'

Real Valladolid have dismissed manager Guillermo Almada after he expressed interest in the Real Oviedo job, with Sisi taking temporary charge.

Valladolid Show Almada the Door After Oviedo Come Calling

In a dramatic Sunday shake-up, Real Valladolid have parted ways with Uruguayan manager Guillermo Almada after he expressed interest in taking the Real Oviedo job.

The bombshell announcement came directly from Valladolid co-president Gabriel Solares, who didn’t mince his words about the situation that’s left the Segunda División side scrambling for a replacement.

No Room for Wandering Eyes

According to Solares, the club received an unexpected approach from Real Oviedo regarding Almada’s services. While initially dismissing the inquiry as “unviable,” alarm bells started ringing when Almada himself admitted he’d like to hear what Oviedo had to offer.

Solares was crystal clear about where the club stands on such matters:

“This institution is above any individual,” Solares declared, explaining that from the moment Almada showed interest in another club, he effectively ceased being their manager.

The co-president didn’t beat around the bush, adding that anyone harboring doubts or interests elsewhere has no place at Real Valladolid.

Sisi Steps Up as Temporary Gaffer

The club has moved swiftly to maintain stability:

  • Former player and coach Sisi has taken temporary charge of first-team duties
  • Friday’s crucial away match at Eibar’s Ipurua stadium will be Sisi’s first test
  • The sporting directorate is already hunting for Almada’s permanent replacement

Caught Everyone on the Hop

Almada’s willingness to entertain Oviedo’s approach reportedly caught the entire club by surprise. It represents a sudden end to his tenure at the Pucela, leaving the club in the lurch as they continue their promotion push.

Solares noted that Almada was originally selected from a shortlist of “20 or 30 names,” pointedly adding that “some remain available” – suggesting the club already has potential replacements in mind.

With negotiations between Almada and Oviedo now ongoing, Valladolid are firmly focused on securing those three points at Eibar while simultaneously searching for a new boss who can maximize the squad’s potential.

What a right old palaver in Pucela! The January transfer window hasn’t even opened, and we’ve already got managers doing the hokey cokey between clubs.
