Granada's Sporting Giants Raise Their Glasses to a Hopeful 2026

In a festive gathering, Granada CF and Covirán Granada basketball club leaders shared optimistic outlooks despite recent struggles in their respective competitions.

The cream of Granada’s sporting world gathered for their traditional Christmas toast, with football and basketball chiefs putting on brave faces despite recent setbacks.

Festive Atmosphere with Serious Undertones

Radio Marca Granada hosted their annual Christmas drinks at Del Gym al Ñams restaurant, bringing together the city’s sporting bigwigs for a proper chinwag about the state of play. The guest list was a who’s who of Granada sport:

  • Pacheta representing Granada CF
  • Alfredo García Amado and Lucas Alcaraz from the football side
  • Óscar Fernández-Arenas and Ramón Díaz from basketball outfit Covirán Granada
  • Representatives from futsal and handball clubs completing the sporting spectrum

Pacheta Keeps the Faith Despite Rough Patch

Granada CF’s gaffer Pacheta was in no mood to throw in the towel despite recent results. The Segunda División side have hit a bit of a rough patch, but the manager was having none of the doom and gloom.

He was adamant his squad weren’t outplayed in their last two defeats and stressed the importance of sticking to their guns. In his view, the team remains “very much alive” and just needs to keep pushing forward.

Perhaps most telling was his approach to the league table and the threat of the drop zone. “We don’t need to look at the standings; this is a marathon, not a sprint,” he insisted, focusing instead on the upcoming Albacete fixture.

When asked what he wanted from the Three Kings (Spain’s gift-giving tradition), Pacheta kept it simple: “Just for things to go well for us.” No fancy requests there, just the bread and butter of getting results.

Basketball Boys Looking for Bounce-Back

Things aren’t exactly Adam and Eve (believe) over at Covirán Granada either. The basketball club representatives acknowledged they’re going through a sticky patch in the ACB, Spain’s top basketball league.

Much of their chat centered on new signing Jassel Pérez. While they’re clearly chuffed with his raw talent, describing him as “exceptional,” there were some interesting caveats. The brass made it crystal clear that for Pérez to reach his potential, he needs to keep his “head straight” and avoid off-court distractions.

It was a proper heart-to-heart from the basketball directors – essentially saying they’ve got a diamond, but he needs polishing in the professionalism department.

Looking Forward, Not Back

Both clubs are clearly focused on turning the page in 2026, with a shared belief that better days are ahead. Despite operating in different sporting arenas, the common thread was resilience and faith in their processes.

For the Granada sporting faithful, the message was clear – stick with us through thick and thin, and we’ll come good in the end.
