Real Valladolid close in on free agent Vegard Erlien from Tromsø as their first January signing amid coaching turmoil and attacking struggles in Segunda División.

Valladolid Set to Land Norwegian Striker Erlien as Winter Window Opens

Amid coaching chaos and attacking woes, Real Valladolid are on the verge of securing their first winter reinforcement with Norwegian striker Vegard Erlien.

Perfect Timing Amid Turmoil

It’s been a proper dog’s dinner at Valladolid lately. The club is still reeling from Guillermo Almada’s departure to Real Oviedo and struggling to appoint his replacement after Rubén Albés was ruled out of contention. Yet sporting director Víctor Orta hasn’t taken his eye off the ball in the transfer market.

The 27-year-old Norwegian forward has already arrived in Valladolid for his medical examination and is set to sign an 18-month contract that will keep him at the club until the end of next season.

Who is Vegard Erlien?

Erlien joins as a free agent after his spell with Norwegian side Tromsø. Standing at 1.83m (6ft), he brings a decent physical presence to Valladolid’s frontline, which has been lacking bite this season.

His stats make for promising reading:

  • 9 goals and 4 assists in over 2,000 minutes during the recently concluded Norwegian league season
  • Experience in the Conference League qualification phase this year
  • An impressive tally of 46 goals across the last four seasons with Tromsø and Ranheim

Addressing Attacking Deficiencies

Valladolid’s brass have clearly identified their attacking department as an area needing urgent attention. The signing represents a swift move by Orta to address these issues before the January window officially opens.

With the club in transition both on the touchline and in the table, Erlien’s arrival could provide a much-needed boost. If he can bring his goalscoring form from Norway to Spain’s Segunda División, he might just be worth his weight in gold for the Blanquivioletas.

The timing couldn’t be better for Valladolid fans looking for some Christmas cheer amid the current uncertainty at the José Zorrilla.
