Barça Eyeing Inter's Bastoni as Top Defensive Target

Barcelona's sporting director Deco has already met with Alessandro Bastoni's agent in Milan as the Catalan club prioritizes defensive reinforcement.

Barcelona Targeting Inter Milan’s Bastoni to Shore Up Defence

The Catalan giants have identified their primary transfer target for the backline, with Italian centre-back Alessandro Bastoni emerging as the dream signing.

Defensive Priorities

According to transfer specialist Matteo Moretto, who spoke on Radio MARCA’s La Pizarra de Quintana, Barcelona’s sporting department has made strengthening their defence the absolute priority. The club is specifically searching for profiles that perfectly align with their footballing philosophy.

It’s no secret that Barça have been struggling at the back this season. With injuries piling up and inconsistent performances, the need for a top-class defender has become glaringly obvious to anyone with half a brain.

Why Bastoni?

The Inter Milan defender ticks all the boxes for what Barcelona are after:

  • Strong defensive capabilities
  • Exceptional ball-playing skills
  • Experience at the highest level
  • Perfect fit for Barcelona’s build-from-the-back approach

At 25, the Italian international represents both an immediate solution and a long-term investment - exactly the sort of smart business the cash-strapped Catalans need to be doing these days.

Deco Taking Action

Barcelona aren’t just daydreaming about this transfer either. Moretto revealed that sporting director Deco has already been putting in the legwork, traveling to Milan a few weeks ago to meet with Bastoni’s representative.

This suggests the interest is proper serious, not just paper talk. That said, prising him away from the Nerazzurri won’t be a walk in the park. Inter are keen to keep their defensive lynchpin, who is contracted until 2028.

Difficult But Not Impossible

Moretto described the potential transfer as a “dream” - which tells you everything about how tricky this one might be to pull off. Inter are unlikely to let one of their star players leave without a proper barney over the fee.

With Barcelona’s financial situation still tight as a drum, they’ll need to be creative if they want to land their man. But the fact they’ve already initiated contact shows they’re not just having a bubble about this one.
