Odriozola and Sadiq back in La Real squad for crucial Levante trip

Real Sociedad bolster squad with key returns ahead of vital Levante clash, while Oyarzabal remains in contention but Óskarsson still sidelined.

Odriozola and Sadiq back in La Real squad for crucial Levante trip

Immelmann Ansotegi has received a timely boost with the return of Álvaro Odriozola and Umar Sadiq to his squad as Real Sociedad prepare for a season-defining clash at Levante.

Squad shake-up

The Txuri-Urdin will be without the suspended Jon Mikel Aramburu for Saturday’s fixture at the Ciutat de València, while Jon Karrikaburu’s absence comes as a bit of a surprise to many supporters. However, the potential return of captain Mikel Oyarzabal after a three-week injury layoff could be just the tonic La Real need in their final match of the year.

Icelandic forward Orri Óskarsson remains sidelined as the club takes a cautious approach with his recovery – no point risking the youngster when he’s not ready to go, is there?

Selection headaches

Ansotegi faces several key decisions ahead of the Levante clash:

  • Odriozola appears the most likely replacement for Aramburu, though Aritz is also in contention depending on the gaffer’s thinking
  • Zakharyan could get another opportunity in attack to cover for the injured Barrenetxea
  • Alternatively, Sergio Gómez might be pushed into a more advanced role
  • Oyarzabal’s inclusion in the squad doesn’t guarantee a starting spot – he may be eased back via the bench

Full squad

The complete travelling party heading to Valencia includes:

Goalkeepers: Remiro, Marrero, Fraga

Outfield players: Aihen, Gorrotxategi, Zubeldia, Aritz, Turrientes, Oyarzabal, Guedes, Kubo, Sadiq, Caleta-Car, Sergio Gómez, Carlos Soler, Odriozola, Zakharyan, Goti, Brais Mendez, Sucic, Marín, Jon Martín, Astiazaran and Mariezkurrena

Three points at Levante would be just what the doctor ordered for La Real as they look to improve their league position before the Christmas break. After some proper ups and downs this season, ending on a high would be lovely jubbly for the San Sebastián outfit.
