Sevilla's Goal Machine: 14 Different Scorers Leading La Liga's Diversity Chart
While not the highest-scoring team, Sevilla boasts more different goalscorers than any other La Liga side this season, with goals coming from all over the pitch.
Sevilla’s Goal Machine: 14 Different Scorers Leading La Liga’s Diversity Chart
The Nervión outfit might not be banging them in for fun, but when it comes to spreading the goalscoring wealth, nobody in Spain does it better.
Goals From Everywhere
Sevilla have been proper democratic with their goalscoring this term, with a whopping 14 different players finding the back of the net in just 16 league matches. That’s more than any other side in La Liga, with Villarreal and Barcelona trailing behind on 12 different scorers, while Real Madrid - Sevilla’s final opponent of the year - have had 10 different players on the scoresheet.
The goals have been spread rather evenly too:
- Isaac Romero, Akor Adams and Rubén Vargas lead the way with three goals each
- Alexis Sánchez and Djibril Sow follow with two apiece
- One-goal contributors include Lukébakio (before his Benfica move), Agoumé, Afon, Peque, Carmona, Gudelj, Marcao, Ejuke and Mendy
Mendy was the latest addition to this ever-growing list, notching Sevilla’s third in their recent victory against Oviedo.
Even More in the Cup
As if 14 different scorers in La Liga wasn’t enough, the Andalusians have added two more names to their overall tally via the Copa del Rey:
- Kike Salas and Adnan Januzaj (who’s scored twice) have both found the net in cup competition
That leaves just six first-team players yet to score this season: Azpilicueta, Suazo, Cardoso, Juanlu, Nianzou and Jordán. Talk about squad contribution!
AFCON Complications
Despite this embarrassment of goalscoring riches, Sevilla are about to lose two key contributors to the Africa Cup of Nations:
- Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke will both be absent during the tournament
This leaves gaffer Almeyda with only Isaac Romero as a recognized striker, explaining why the club’s brass are on the hunt for a new forward in the January window. Bit of a head-scratcher that - when you’ve got goals coming from all over the shop, you’d think they’d be sorted up top!
The last time Sevilla visited the Bernabéu almost a year ago, they put two past Real Madrid through Isaac Romero and Lukébakio in a 4-2 defeat. With their current spread of goalscoring talent, they’ll be hoping to go one better in their final match of the year.
