Luís Castro Takes the Reins at Levante Until 2027
Struggling Levante appoint ex-Nantes manager Luís Castro on a long-term deal, as Álvaro del Moral returns to the reserve team after brief first-team stint.
Luís Castro Takes the Reins at Levante Until 2027
The bottom-placed La Liga side have turned to Portuguese experience in their desperate fight against relegation.
New Boss in Town
Levante UD have officially announced the appointment of Luís Castro as their new head coach until 2027, ending their brief period of interim management. The Portuguese gaffer, who parted ways with FC Nantes just nine days ago, faces the daunting task of rescuing the Valencia-based outfit from their current position at the foot of the La Liga table.
It’s a proper baptism of fire for Castro, who’ll need to hit the ground running if he’s to turn around Levante’s fortunes. The club have been in dire straits this season, and the board clearly believe the former Nantes man has the tactical nous to orchestrate what would be a remarkable escape act.
Management Reshuffle
The appointment triggers several changes in Levante’s coaching structure:
- Álvaro del Moral, who had been in temporary charge since December 1st, returns to his previous role with Atlético Levante UD (the reserve team)
- Vicente Iborra will remain part of the first-team coaching staff under Castro
- The club have publicly thanked both Del Moral and Iborra for their commitment during the interim period
Long-term Vision
What’s particularly interesting about this appointment is the length of Castro’s contract. A deal running until 2027 suggests the Levante board are thinking beyond just short-term survival - they’re backing their new man for the long haul.
The timing couldn’t be more crucial with the January transfer window approaching. Castro will presumably have some input on potential reinforcements as he attempts to assemble a squad capable of climbing out of the drop zone.
Levante supporters will be hoping Castro can work some proper magic to keep them up. As they say in the East End, it’s going to be a right old “struggle and strife” to avoid the drop, but the Portuguese tactician brings valuable experience that could make all the difference.
