Bernabéu Backs Xabi: Fans Point Finger at Players, Not Gaffer
Real Madrid supporters overwhelmingly support Xabi Alonso despite recent poor performances, with fans more critical of Vinicius and the playing squad according to a major survey.
Bernabéu Backs Xabi: Fans Point Finger at Players, Not Gaffer
The Santiago Bernabéu faithful have made their voices heard, and surprisingly, they’re not blaming the man in the dugout for Real Madrid’s recent underwhelming performances.
Fan Survey Reveals Surprising Support
A massive poll conducted by MARCA with over 100,000 respondents has revealed some proper eye-openers about where Madrid fans place the blame for their current struggles:
- A whopping 61% believe the players are the main problem
- Only 16% point the finger at Xabi Alonso
- The remaining 23% blame the club’s directors
Even more telling, when asked directly about Xabi’s future, 76% of supporters believe the club should stick with him and reinforce his position, compared to just 14% who want him sacked immediately.
Vini in the Doghouse
Perhaps the most shocking revelation is the fanbase’s complete loss of patience with Vinicius Jr. In what was the most decisive response in the entire survey:
- A staggering 86% of fans believe Vinicius should be sold
- Just 7% think the club should continue supporting him
- Another 7% reckon it’s merely a temporary form issue
This represents a dramatic shift in sentiment toward a player once considered untouchable at the Bernabéu.
January Shopping List
Despite Madrid’s traditional reluctance to dip into the winter transfer market, supporters are crying out for reinforcements:
- 79% want new signings in January
- 73% prioritize a new midfielder
- 20% would prefer defensive reinforcements
- Only 7% think another forward is needed
Title Hopes Fading?
The mood among the Madrid faithful is decidedly pessimistic regarding silverware this season:
- 68% believe Madrid won’t win either La Liga or the Champions League
- 20% still have faith in a league title
- Just 12% predict a league and European double
Critical January Ahead
The club returns to action on January 4th against Real Betis, but the real litmus test appears to be the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. The January 8th Madrid derby semi-final against Atlético could prove decisive for Xabi’s future, especially after the humiliating 5-2 league defeat earlier this season.
Should the board lose patience, former Madrid player Álvaro Arbeloa appears to be the leading candidate to step in, though options seem limited at this stage.
One thing’s crystal clear: while the higher-ups at Madrid might be pointing the blame at Xabi, the fans are having none of it. They’ve made their feelings known – it’s the players who need to have a proper look in the mirror, not the gaffer.
