Clash of Styles: Injury-Hit Betis and Getafe Set for Christmas Showdown
Betis host Getafe in a festive LaLiga fixture with both sides struggling with absences as they look to end 2025 on a high note at La Cartuja.
Injury Crisis Looms Over Festive Fixture
Both Real Betis and Getafe will limp into their final LaLiga clash of 2025 tonight with more players in the treatment room than either manager would care for. The Seville outfit particularly find themselves in the wars, with talisman Isco still sidelined from that nasty Amrabat collision over three weeks ago.
Pellegrini’s green and whites are facing something of a Christmas nightmare with their injury list growing longer than my local’s bar tab. Beyond Isco, they’re missing Diego Llorente and Junior Firpo through injury, while the African Cup of Nations has robbed them of Sofyan Amrabat, Abde and Bakambu.
Despite these setbacks, Los Verdiblancos remain in the hunt across all competitions:
- Still battling for European spots in LaLiga
- One foot already in the Europa League round of 16
- Awaiting their Copa del Rey round of 16 opponents
Getafe aren’t exactly having a Christmas cracker of their own on the injury front. Bordalás will have to make do without four key players - Abu Kamara, Davinchi, Coba da Costa and Abdel Abqar - forcing him to call up academy players to fill out his squad. The Azulones will be desperate to bounce back after last weekend’s league defeat to Espanyol and their painful Copa elimination against Burgos.
Midfield Maestros: The Battle of Spanish Talent
If you’re looking for where this game might be won and lost, cast your mince pies toward the midfield battle between two of Spain’s most technically gifted operators.
Pablo Fornals has been absolutely mustard for Pellegrini’s side, showcasing his versatility while contributing three goals and four assists in LaLiga this season. The former West Ham man has added serious attacking thrust to Betis’ play.
In the opposite corner, Madrid-born Milla hasn’t found the net yet but has been Getafe’s creative hub with six assists - making him the third-highest provider in LaLiga behind only Lamine Yamal and Marcus Rashford.
Both sides will be looking to finish 2025 with some Christmas cheer at La Cartuja, but with so many absences, don’t be shocked if this one lacks the quality we’ve seen from these teams at full strength.
