Nightmare Before Christmas: Getafe's December Horror Show
Getafe cap off 2025 with a heavy defeat to Real Betis, ending a dismal December that saw them fail to score in La Liga and concede 12 goals across all competitions.
Nightmare Before Christmas: Getafe’s December Horror Show
Getafe’s year has ended with a proper Christmas turkey as Real Betis handed them a hammering at La Cartuja, capping off a December that Bordalás’s men will be desperate to forget.
December Disaster
The numbers make for grim reading for the boys from south Madrid:
- Zero La Liga goals since November 28th (their last win against Elche)
- Seven goals conceded in just three league matches this month
- A total of 12 goals shipped in five games across all competitions
- Star striker Borja Mayoral hasn’t found the net since October 31st
Their only win in December? A laboured extra-time victory against fourth-tier Navalcarnero in the Copa del Rey - before promptly being knocked out by Burgos in the next round. Talk about Christmas cheer, eh?
Squad Stretched Thin
The squad situation at Getafe is becoming a proper dog’s dinner. With five registration spots unfilled and four players out injured, Bordalás took a squad to La Cartuja that was missing nine first-team players. That’s nearly a full starting XI of absentees!
No wonder the gaffer’s been on the blower telling the brass they need reinforcements when the January window opens its doors. President Ángel Torres has already mentioned wanting a new centre-back and forward, but honestly, they might need the full Christmas list to turn this ship around.
Winter Window Rescue Mission
The January transfer window can’t come quickly enough for the Azulones. With the team sliding down the table faster than a kid on a toboggan, some fresh faces are desperately needed to inject life into a side that’s looking knackered.
Getafe’s current form is giving the fans the right hump, and unless they can start scoring goals again, they might find themselves in a proper relegation scrap before spring rolls around.
For now, they’ll have to lick their wounds, tuck into their Christmas turkey, and hope that Santa brings them some much-needed quality in the new year.
