Andrada Eyes Colo Colo Switch as Zaragoza Face Goalkeeper Headache
Real Zaragoza's standout keeper Esteban Andrada reportedly keen on Colo Colo move in January transfer window despite being crucial to Rubén Sellés' side.
Zaragoza’s Safe Hands Eyeing Chilean Exit
Real Zaragoza could be facing a right old goalkeeper crisis this January with their star between the sticks, Esteban Andrada, apparently keen on a move to Chilean giants Colo Colo.
The 34-year-old Argentine has been absolutely mustard for the Segunda División outfit this season, establishing himself as one of the team’s most consistent performers in what’s been another challenging campaign for Los Maños.
Agent Confirms Interest
According to Chilean publication ‘El Deportivo’, Andrada’s agent Luciano Nicolás has made no bones about his client’s desire to join Colo Colo in the upcoming transfer window.
The agent has confirmed they’ve already had initial contact with the Chilean club, suggesting Andrada “wants to arrive at Colo Colo” - which is about as clear as it gets in the transfer market, innit?
Complicated Situation
Here’s where it gets a bit tricky:
- Andrada is currently on loan at Zaragoza from Mexican side Monterrey until June 2023
- His contract with Monterrey runs until 2027
- Zaragoza view him as absolutely crucial to Rubén Sellés’ plans
- His ball-playing ability makes him particularly valuable to their style
What makes this potential move particularly interesting is the Colo Colo connection - their current manager Fernando Ortiz previously worked with Andrada at Monterrey and is keen on a reunion.
Zaragoza Hold The Cards
While Andrada might fancy the move back to South America at this stage of his career, especially with promotion looking like a pipe dream for struggling Zaragoza, the Spanish club currently holds all the aces.
The agent has admitted he’ll be speaking with Zaragoza this week to “see the possibility of his exit,” but acknowledges that “the Spanish club has the final word” in any potential January move.
For Zaragoza, losing their number one midway through the season would be a proper kick in the Khyber. Unless the keeper really forces the issue, it’s difficult to see them letting him walk away given how vital he’s been to any stability they’ve had this term.
One to watch in the January transfer window, that’s for Adam and Eve.
