RCD Mallorca players enjoy festive freedom as they head into Christmas in 13th place - their highest position this season despite sitting miles behind last year's pace.
Mallorca Sign Off 2025 with Holiday Cheer as Arrasate Grants Christmas Break
The Son Bibiloni training ground falls silent as Jagoba Arrasate rewards his troops with a full week off to enjoy the festive period.
Current Standing: Glass Half Full?
The Balearic boys closed out 2025 with a hard-fought draw at Mestalla on Friday, and thanks to Rayo’s defeat yesterday, they’ve climbed to their highest position of the season. Mallorca now sit 13th in the table as they head into the Christmas break - not exactly time to crack open the champagne, but certainly reason for cautious optimism.
With 18 points in the bag, they’re hovering three points above the relegation zone currently occupied by Girona - who, as luck would have it, will be their first opponents of the new year when they visit the island on January 4th.
The mid-table logjam remains proper squeezed though, with four other teams on identical points. Only Osasuna edge ahead on goal difference, meaning this holiday position might be a bit of a false dawn. The battle to avoid the dreaded drop remains tight as a drum.
Last Season’s Shadow
Comparisons with last term make for slightly painful reading for the Mallorca faithful. At this same stage last season (17 matches played), they were sitting pretty in 6th place with 27 points - a whopping 9 more than their current tally.
The defensive numbers tell an interesting story too. While they’ve only scored 2 fewer goals than at this point last campaign, they’ve shipped 8 more at the back. Not exactly what you want on your Christmas list, is it?
Fresh Start for 2026?
It’s been a bumpy old ride for Mallorca this season, with early poor results and the whole Dani Rodríguez drama (water under the bridge now, thankfully). But the gaffer sees signs of improvement, and this festive break comes at the perfect time for the squad to recharge their Gregory Pecks.
When they return to training on Monday the 29th, all eyes will be on that crucial relegation six-pointer against Girona to kick off 2026. Win that, and suddenly the new year might look a whole lot brighter for the Bermellones.
