Granada's Goal Drought: Chances Aplenty, Finishing Awry
Pacheta's men creating plenty but converting little as Granada search for winter window striker to solve their scoring woes in Segunda División.
Granada’s Goal Drought: Chances Aplenty, Finishing Awry
The Nazaríes are knocking on the door but nobody’s home when it comes to finding the back of the net this season.
Wasteful in the Final Third
Two shots off the woodwork, 18 attempts with 13 inside the box, and four clear-cut chances against Albacete - yet Granada walked away empty-handed. It’s becoming a proper broken record for Pacheta’s side, who continue to be hamstrung by their profligacy in front of goal.
The story was similar against Sporting a week earlier. Despite creating several dangerous opportunities after falling behind, the Andalusians couldn’t find an equaliser, rendering their efforts as useful as a chocolate teapot.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
The stats paint a grim picture for the rojiblancos:
- Just 21 goals scored this season - well below what their chance creation deserves
- A measly 11.86% conversion rate that’s giving the gaffer nightmares
- Last season at this stage, they’d already bagged 30 goals - a stark contrast to current form
Granada frequently dominate portions of matches but simply can’t make it count where it matters. You can create all the chances in the world, but if you can’t finish your dinner, you’ll go to bed hungry.
January Shopping List
With their finishing troubles clear as day, the winter transfer window can’t come soon enough. Granada have made signing a proper goalscorer their top priority, but it won’t be a walk in the park.
As Pacheta has already cautioned, finding a reliable finisher is no easy feat. Goals cost serious bread, options are limited, and Granada aren’t exactly swimming in cash at the moment. The club are scouring foreign markets to find their scoring salvation - someone who can arrive at Los Cármenes and solve their finishing woes for the second half of the campaign.
If they can’t find the right man, it could be a case of same old, same old for the Andalusians - creating chances for fun but ending up with nothing to show for it. The January window might just be the most important in recent memory for the club.
