Las Palmas Eyeing Barcelona Academy Product Pedrola in January Loan Swoop
The Canary Islanders are making moves in the winter window as they look to beef up their attacking options for a serious promotion push from Segunda División.
Pedrola Deal Nearly Done
Las Palmas are close to securing the loan signing of 22-year-old winger Estanis Pedrola from Italian side Sampdoria. The speedy right-sided attacker would arrive on a temporary deal until the end of the season, with Las Palmas reportedly negotiating an option to buy should they achieve promotion.
Pedrola’s journey has been a bit of a rollercoaster, having come through the youth systems at both Espanyol and Barcelona. The young Catalan even got a brief taste of first-team action under Xavi Hernández at Barça before being shipped off to Sampdoria - initially on loan before the Italians splashed about £2.5 million to make the move permanent.
Injury troubles have sadly put the brakes on what looked to be a promising career trajectory for the lad, but Las Palmas are willing to take a punt on his potential. He’ll occupy a B-team slot in their squad registration, making it a low-risk move for the ambitious islanders.
More Attacking Reinforcements on the Horizon
The club’s president made no bones about their transfer intentions this week, confirming they’re looking to strengthen significantly as they chase promotion. Benedetti has already been secured, and Pedrola looks to be next through the door.
But Las Palmas aren’t stopping there. Sporting Director Luis Helguera is reportedly in negotiations for a proper centre-forward to complete their attacking overhaul. The president himself admitted yesterday on the club’s radio station that “for the striker, we’ll have to wait a bit longer.”
Three potential targets have emerged, all currently at La Liga clubs:
- Urko Izeta from Athletic Club
- Antoniu Roca from Espanyol
- A third unnamed Primera División striker
The brass at Las Palmas know they need to be clever in the transfer market to land a truly difference-making number 9, but they’re clearly not afraid to have a butcher’s hook at some ambitious targets.
With these attacking additions, Las Palmas are making their promotion intentions crystal clear. The second half of the season in Segunda División just got a whole lot more interesting.
