With Akor Adams away at AFCON and Isaac Romero misfiring, Sevilla are reportedly targeting Eintracht Frankfurt's Elye Wahi on loan to bolster their attacking options.

Sevilla are reportedly chasing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Elye Wahi on loan as they look to solve their attacking woes during the January transfer window.

Squad Situation

Matías Almeyda’s squad are currently enjoying their Christmas break until December 28th, when they’ll return to training behind closed doors at the club’s training complex. However, not everyone will be present when work resumes.

Nigerian duo Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke are off representing their country at the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving Sevilla particularly short up front. Adams’ absence, coupled with Isaac Romero’s lack of clinical finishing this season, has apparently convinced the club’s hierarchy that reinforcements are needed pronto.

Transfer Complications

Bringing in new faces won’t be straightforward for the Andalusians. The club’s well-documented financial constraints mean they’re in a proper pickle:

  • All squad places are currently filled
  • Fede Gattoni is returning to the club
  • Players must leave before anyone can arrive
  • At least one sale is needed to create financial wiggle room

The Wahi Option

According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Sevilla have already opened talks with Eintracht Frankfurt about bringing in 22-year-old Elye Wahi on loan. The Ivorian-born French striker, who turns 23 on January 2nd, is apparently high on sporting director Antonio Cordón’s wish list.

Interestingly, Wahi has already faced Sevilla in the Champions League while playing for Lens during the 2023-24 group stage, when Diego Alonso was in the Sevilla dugout.

The forward’s recent career has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Lens splashed €30 million on him, before he moved to Marseille last season. After just half a campaign on the Mediterranean coast, Frankfurt shelled out €26 million to bring him to Germany, where he’s struggled to make a serious impact.

For Sevilla fans, the hope will be that if Wahi does arrive at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, he can rediscover the form that once made him one of France’s most promising young strikers. With goals at a premium this season, they need someone who can find the onion bag with regularity.
