Mirandés desperate for Anduva homecoming as Segunda struggles continue
From play-off finalists to relegation battlers, Mirandés' exile from their Anduva home has coincided with a dramatic downturn in fortunes in LaLiga Hypermotion.
Just six months after narrowly missing out on a historic promotion to La Liga, CD Mirandés find themselves at rock bottom of LaLiga Hypermotion and staring relegation to Primera Federación square in the face.
Home sweet… Mendizorroza?
One of the primary culprits behind the club’s dramatic nosedive has been their abysmal home form. The rojillos have been forced to play their ‘home’ matches at Alavés’ Mendizorroza stadium in Vitoria while construction work takes place at their beloved Anduva ground.
The numbers make for proper grim reading:
- Lost 6 of 9 home matches this season
- Collected just 7 points from a possible 27
- Only Leganés have a worse home record
This is the same Mirandés side that was absolutely mustard at home last season, suffering just a single defeat in 23 matches at Anduva across league and play-off fixtures.
Ghost town atmosphere
While Vitoria is only about 35 kilometers from Miranda de Ebro, the temporary relocation has seen attendances fall off a cliff. Their recent home clash against Córdoba attracted a measly 1,580 spectators - hardly the twelfth man they need in their current predicament.
Light at the end of the tunnel
The renovation work at Anduva isn’t just a vanity project - it’s required to meet LaLiga’s safety standards and will increase capacity by 1,100 seats. The good news for Mirandés fans is that the club hopes to return to their spiritual home as early as January 10th for their crucial fixture against Almería.
With the first half of the season ending and the second half beginning with home fixtures, a return to Anduva couldn’t come at a more critical time. The club will be praying that familiar surroundings might help them recapture some of last season’s magic and climb away from the drop zone.
For a team that came within touching distance of the promised land just last June, avoiding the trapdoor to the third tier has suddenly become the priority. Talk about a right old rollercoaster!
