Brotherly Love at Sanse: Gorosabel Siblings Make History Despite Defeat

Gorka and Jakes Gorosabel shared the pitch for Real Sociedad B for the first time in their 1-3 defeat to Ceuta, continuing a proud family tradition at the club.

A historic family moment amid disappointment for the Txuri-urdin’s reserve side.

Family Affair at Anoeta

Real Sociedad B’s final match of 2025 might have ended in a disappointing 1-3 defeat to Ceuta, but the occasion will forever be etched in the memory of the Gorosabel family. Brothers Gorka and Jakes Gorosabel shared the pitch for the first time in a competitive fixture, both representing Sanse in LaLiga Hypermotion.

The siblings follow in the footsteps of other notable brother duos who’ve turned out for La Real’s second team in recent years:

  • Imanol and Iñigo Idiakez
  • Mikel and Xabi Alonso
  • Alain and Eneko Eizmendi

Younger Brother Leading the Way

In an interesting twist, it was 19-year-old Gorka, the younger of the pair, who first caught Real Sociedad’s eye. Having broken through at Sanse last season – even scoring a crucial goal in the promotion play-offs – he’d established himself as a regular starter under Jon Ansotegi before injury temporarily halted his progress.

Sunday’s match against Ceuta marked only his second appearance after missing four games through injury. He entered the action in the 58th minute at Anoeta.

Big Brother Joins the Party

Jakes, 22, followed his younger brother onto the pitch in the 75th minute, sporting the number 33 shirt from the club’s third team. His journey to this moment has been more circuitous, having joined La Real in 2022 and spending part of last season on loan at Arenas de Getxo.

Currently playing primarily with Real Sociedad’s Tercera RFEF squad, Jakes has occasionally been called up by Ansotegi for the B team – creating this special moment for the family.

Continuing the Family Legacy

The significance of the occasion wouldn’t have been lost on the brothers’ father, Joseba Gorosabel, who himself represented Sanse in the 1990s. During his time, he played alongside the aforementioned Idiakez brothers – completing a rather tidy circle in the club’s history.

While the result might have been a proper nightmare for the team, for the Gorosabel clan, it was a moment to treasure. Proper family business, that.
