Toché signs new deal to build a 'bigger' Albacete
Albacete's sporting director extends his contract until 2027 as the club prioritises stability ahead of the January transfer window.
Stability and continuity are the name of the game at Albacete Balompié as sporting director José Verdú Nicolás ‘Toché’ pens a new deal to continue his project at the Segunda División club.
Building for the future
Albacete have shown their commitment to long-term planning by extending Toché’s contract until June 2027, just days before the winter transfer window kicks off. The sporting director, who joined in March 2024, has made it clear he’s sticking around to continue developing the club’s ambitious project.
“I’m renewing with the intention of continuing the process of making Alba bigger,” Toché explained when discussing his motivation to extend his stay.
It’s not just the gaffer who’s staying put either. His entire technical team has also renewed their contracts, including:
- Juan Antonio Zamora (Technical Secretary)
- Emilio Verdú (Assistant Sporting Director)
- José Manuel Arrojo (Scout for northern Spanish football)
Success story so far
Since taking the reins of Albacete’s sporting operations in March 2024, Toché has been nothing short of a diamond geezer for the Manchegan outfit. He’s ticked all the boxes set by the club’s board, ensuring they maintained their professional status when he first arrived and then guiding them to a respectable 10th place finish last season.
January business incoming
With his future now sorted, Toché can focus on the bread and butter of strengthening the squad during the January window. The aim is clear: reinforcing the team for the business end of the 2025-26 campaign as they look to push on from their achievements in recent seasons.
For a club that’s had its fair share of ups and downs over the years, this stability at the top is exactly what the doctor ordered. The continuity in both institutional and sporting management suggests Albacete aren’t just looking to survive in the Segunda – they’re planning to thrive.
