Betis star Antony backs himself alongside Brazil's elite: 'Rodrygo, Vinicius and me'

Real Betis winger Antony names himself among Brazil's top three players as he targets World Cup call-up after becoming Betis' top scorer in 2025.

Betis’ Brazilian star has shown no shortage of confidence in a rapid-fire club interview, naming himself alongside Real Madrid’s samba superstars when asked to name three Brazilian footballers.

From Man United outcast to Betis hero

Antony has become the darling of the Benito Villamarín since his initial loan move from Manchester United last January. After winning over the Betis faithful during his temporary stint, the club splashed the cash to make his move permanent in the summer, showing serious intent by backing their new number 7.

The scenes at his airport arrival and official presentation were absolutely mental - proper goosebumps stuff that showed how much the Betis supporters had taken to the Brazilian winger.

Leading the line in 2025

The former Ajax man ends 2025 as Betis’ top marksman with an impressive 17 goals to his name. His nearest competition comes from another January arrival, Cucho Hernández, who’s bagged 14 goals himself. Not a bad bit of winter business from the Verdiblancos, was it?

The squad’s currently enjoying a brief festive break before returning to training on Tuesday, December 30th. But social media waits for no footballer.

Dreaming of the Seleção

In a quick-fire club interview where he had just five seconds to name three responses to each question, Antony was asked to name three Brazilian players. Without hesitation, he went for “Rodrygo, Vinicius and me” - putting himself in some seriously posh company there!

The winger has made no secret of his World Cup ambitions, stating: “It’s a dream to wear my national team’s shirt and play in the World Cup.” He’s keeping his feet on the ground though, adding that he needs to “do well here first” before thinking about the Seleção’s trip to North America.

When asked about other green and white clubs, Antony named “Betis, Sporting Lisbon and Celtic,” while revealing the three things he couldn’t live without are “family, football and God.”

With his current form and confidence levels, you wouldn’t bet against the Betis star forcing his way into Brazil’s plans for the upcoming World Cup across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
