Madrid slam door shut on Napoli's cheeky Mastantuono loan approach

Real Madrid have rejected interest in Franco Mastantuono from several European clubs including Napoli, seeing the Argentine as central to their long-term plans.

Real Madrid have firmly rejected any possibility of loaning out Franco Mastantuono, with the club considering the young Argentine a cornerstone of their long-term project.

Madrid’s diamond not for sharing

According to reports, several European clubs have been sniffing around Mastantuono, with Napoli even making informal enquiries about a potential loan move. However, Los Blancos shut down that possibility before any formal offer could materialize.

The Spanish giants splashed over €60 million on the River Plate wonderkid last summer, beating PSG to his signature in what they view as a crucial investment in their future. That’s a fair few bob for a teenager, but Madrid clearly believe they’ve got a proper player on their hands.

Instant impact before injury setback

Mastantuono’s adaptation to European football was remarkably swift:

  • Needed just two matches to break into Xabi Alonso’s starting eleven
  • Became the second-youngest Madrid player to debut in the Champions League
  • Scored his first goal against Levante, making him the fourth-youngest Madrid goalscorer in La Liga history (18 years, 40 days)

Such was his importance that the club blocked his participation in the U20 World Cup last October, where Argentina reached the final without their star player.

However, the youngster’s progress hit a roadblock on November 3rd when he suffered a troublesome pubic injury. This setback has limited his minutes since then, requiring careful management and a gradual return to action.

Big 2026 ambitions

Despite the injury frustration, Mastantuono’s determination to succeed in the famous white shirt remains unwavering. He’s looking to put his fitness troubles behind him in early 2026 and continue his adaptation to European football.

The year ahead also presents significant international opportunities:

  • The Finalissima against Spain in March could be his first senior final with Argentina
  • The World Cup in June might see him make his tournament debut

The record-breaking prodigy already became Argentina’s youngest player to debut in an official match last June. If he makes the World Cup squad and plays against Algeria in their opener, he would surpass Lionel Messi’s record by 20 days - not too shabby for a lad still finding his feet in Madrid!
