PSG cap off dream 2025 with Globe Soccer Awards domination
Paris Saint-Germain sweep up seven trophies at Dubai ceremony following their historic six-title season, with Dembélé crowned best player and Luis Enrique best coach.
French giants put the cherry on top of their historic season with awards haul in Dubai
It was always on the cards, wasn’t it? After bagging six trophies in an almost perfect season, PSG have been crowned the big winners at the 16th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards held yesterday at Dubai’s swanky Royal Palm hotel.
Historic achievement
The Parisians’ trophy cabinet is absolutely heaving after their Champions League triumph, Intercontinental Cup, European Super Cup, Ligue 1, French Cup and French Super Cup victories. Only the new Club World Cup slipped through their fingers.
To put this achievement in perspective, only two clubs in football history have previously managed six trophies in a single season:
- Guardiola’s Barcelona in 2009
- Flick’s Bayern Munich in 2020
Now Luis Enrique’s lads have joined this most exclusive of clubs, finally landing that elusive European Cup after a decade of trying and a fair few bob spent.
Awards galore
The French champions made an absolute killing at the Dubai ceremony, walking away with seven individual awards:
- Best Player: Ousmane Dembélé
- Best Coach: Luis Enrique
- Best Club
- Best Midfielder: Vitinha
- Best Young Player: Doué
- Best Sporting Director: Luis Campos
- Best President: Nasser Al-Khelaifi
Al-Khelaifi reflected on their journey, saying it was “a great collective effort” rather than about individuals. Interestingly, he claimed if he could go back a decade, he “wouldn’t change a thing” – which might raise a few eyebrows given some of their previous Champions League disasters.
Dembélé’s redemption arc
Ousmane Dembélé, once seen as Barcelona’s problem child, has completed his redemption story by being named best player. The Frenchman acknowledged their “exceptional year” while admitting “the first part of the season was very difficult”.
Young star Desire Doué was buzzing after collecting his award, claiming he’s “living a dream” and promising to “work hard to be the best in the world”. Ambitious lad.
Notable absences
Bit strange that Luis Enrique didn’t show up or even send a thank you video. Same goes for Aitana Bonmatí, who won best female player for the third straight year. Proper odd that, especially for such a prestigious do.
Barcelona did manage to retain their title as best women’s club despite not winning the Champions League – small consolation for the Catalans on a night dominated by their rivals.
Yamal shines for Barça
Lamine Yamal provided some cheer for Barcelona fans, collecting three awards including LaLiga’s best young player. The teenager showed remarkable maturity, avoiding comparisons with the greats: “Better not to compare yourself with anyone, players like Cristiano became who they are by not comparing themselves.”
The evening also featured a touching tribute to Liverpool’s Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in July alongside his brother in a traffic accident in Zamora. His parents received a special award in his memory, prompting a moving standing ovation from everyone present.
