Valladolid snap up Norwegian striker Erlien as first winter signing

Real Valladolid have moved quickly in the January window to secure Norwegian forward Vegard Erlien on a free transfer to boost their struggling attack.

Free agent Norwegian forward Vegard Erlien becomes Real Valladolid’s first winter window acquisition as the Segunda División side looks to solve their goalscoring woes.

Norwegian firepower arrives at Zorrilla

Valladolid haven’t wasted any time in the January transfer market, officially announcing the arrival of 27-year-old Norwegian striker Vegard Erlien on Sunday. The forward joins as a free agent after his contract with Norwegian side Tromso expired, signing a deal that runs until 2027.

The signing addresses a glaring need for the Pucela side, who have struggled mightily in front of goal this season. Only four teams in the Segunda División have netted fewer than Valladolid’s measly 20 goals - hardly the sort of return that’ll have fans dancing down Calle Santiago.

Proven goalscoring record

Erlien brings an impressive scoring pedigree to Spain:

  • Former Norway youth international
  • Developed in the Byasen and Rosenborg academies
  • Made his mark at Ranheim with 20 goals and 9 assists
  • Flourished at Tromso with 36 goals and 16 assists since 2023
  • Experience in European competition (Conference League qualifiers)

The Norwegian’s arrival should provide a much-needed boost to a Valladolid attack that’s been about as threatening as a wet weekend in Blackpool.

Fresh start under new management

Erlien will be officially presented to fans and media on Tuesday, having already arrived in Valladolid to begin training. He’ll be working under new manager Luís García Tevenet, who himself has only just taken the reins following Guillermo Almada’s departure to Real Oviedo.

The double change of striker and gaffer represents something of a fresh start for Valladolid as they look to turn their season around. If Erlien can bring his Norwegian finishing to Spain, he might just be the winter bargain of the season. Proper Adam’s apple that one could be.
