Yeremay set for another transfer saga as Barcelona join the hunt

Deportivo bracing for January bids for their Segunda star Yeremay, with Barcelona the latest heavyweight to show interest after last summer's €30m Portuguese approach.

Deportivo’s Segunda Division gem Yeremay Hernández looks set to spark another frenzied transfer window, with Barcelona now joining the list of European heavyweights tracking the talented winger.

Europe’s big boys circling

The lads at Depor aren’t daft - they know they’ve got the crown jewels of Segunda on their hands. Despite having the player’s word and the club’s firm stance against selling, football’s transfer market turns proper mental when the big clubs come knocking with their chequebooks.

Last summer saw Sporting Lisbon table a whopping €30 million offer for the Canary Islands-born star. Now, the Riazor outfit are bracing themselves for even more interest from Europe’s elite leagues when January rolls around.

Barcelona are the latest club linked with a move. The Catalan giants are reportedly compiling extensive scouting reports on Yeremay, with his quality in tight spaces and lethal attacking ability making him an attractive proposition for the Nou Camp decision-makers.

Backup plan brewing

Depor aren’t sitting on their hands waiting for disaster, mind. They’ve been busy behind the scenes working on potential reinforcements should the worst happen.

For months, the club has been in discussions with the representatives of Antonio Cordero, nicknamed Antoñito. The Andalusian talent is currently owned by Newcastle United, who purchased him from Málaga last summer before shipping him out on loan to Belgian side KVC Westerlo.

The loan spell hasn’t gone according to plan, with Antoñito struggling for regular minutes in Belgium. Sources suggest he’d welcome a return to Spain, but Deportivo face the challenge of convincing Newcastle to terminate his current loan arrangement before any deal could be struck.

For now, Deportivo fans will be hoping their club can hold firm against the inevitable January interest in their prized asset. But as we all know in football, when the big boys come calling with the readies, it’s often just a matter of time before someone’s pockets get filled.
