Mallorca back to the grind with no fresh faces... yet
RCD Mallorca return from their Christmas break to prepare for crucial relegation six-pointer against Girona, with no January signings in sight as squad deals with absences.
Mallorca squad returns to training after festive break with no new signings in sight, as they prepare for a crucial relegation battle against Girona this Sunday.
Back to business
The holiday’s over for Mallorca’s players, who’ve dragged themselves back to training this Monday with their eyes firmly on Sunday’s six-pointer against fellow relegation battlers Girona. Jagoba Arrasate’s men currently sit 13th in the table with 18 points from 17 matches - a somewhat comfortable three points clear of their Catalan opponents who are languishing in 18th.
The Balearic outfit were back at the Antonio Asensio training complex without any new faces among the ranks. The January transfer window’s about to swing open, but there’s no sign yet of any winter reinforcements, though the sporting directors will surely be grafting behind the scenes to strengthen where needed.
Missing in action
Several players were notable by their absence from Monday’s session:
- Goalkeeper Pichu Cuéllar (minor injury concerns)
- Mateo Joseph (illness)
- Omar Mascarell (away on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Equatorial Guinea)
- Takuma Asano (expected to return to the island in the coming hours)
The squad is also permanently one man lighter following Dani Rodríguez’s departure on December 19th, when he terminated his contract after nearly eight seasons at the club. Proper club servant, that one.
Youth getting a look-in
Arrasate did call up some youngsters to bolster numbers, with B-team goalkeeper Nil Torreguitart and left-back Iliesse Salhi joining the first-team training. Meanwhile, young forward Marc Domenech trained normally despite being in advanced talks for a loan move to Segunda División side Ceuta for the remainder of the season.
New Year’s open training
The club will host an open training session at Son Moix stadium on Wednesday (December 31st) at 10:30am, giving fans the chance to see their heroes up close as they bid farewell to 2025 in a family-friendly atmosphere.
In the proper Christmas spirit, Mallorca and their foundation have organized a charitable food collection in collaboration with Fundación Barceló. Fans attending are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which will be distributed to 26 charitable organizations supporting vulnerable communities across Mallorca.
