Muñoz digs his heels in at Málaga despite mounting pressure

Málaga CF's judicial administrator José María Muñoz refuses to step down over fan discontent but delays addressing 'Caso Vera' investigation until January 8th press conference.

Málaga’s embattled judicial administrator is keeping his cards close to his chest amid growing speculation about his future at the club.

Crisis talks delayed

José María Muñoz, the man running the show at Málaga CF, faced the music at a scheduled press conference following the club’s General Shareholders’ Meeting, but deliberately sidestepped questions about the ongoing ‘Caso Vera’ investigation in which he’s personally implicated.

Instead of addressing the elephant in the room, Muñoz kicked the can down the road, promising a dedicated press conference on January 8th specifically to discuss his legal troubles. The timing and location remain up in the air, with Muñoz admitting he doesn’t even have a communications department to organize it properly.

“My lawyers have advised me not to answer anything about this matter now,” Muñoz explained, promising to convene the media next week to tackle the issue head-on.

Staying put… for now

When directly asked about potential resignation plans, Muñoz was crystal clear that fan discontent alone wouldn’t be enough to shift him from his position. He’s having none of it from supporters calling for his head.

The administrator pointed to his five-year track record of stabilizing the club financially:

  • Absorbed over €5 million in pre-existing debt
  • Provided more resources to the sporting department
  • Increased retail sales from 60,000 to potentially 180,000 units annually
  • Projected positive treasury by season’s end
  • Meeting scheduled debt payments within established timeframes

Defiant stance

Muñoz remains adamant that his work has been “very good” despite acknowledging some missteps along the way. In what might raise a few eyebrows among the Málaga faithful, he confessed to being puzzled by his unpopularity with supporters.

“I don’t know why Málaga fans don’t want me, although they have every right to express themselves,” he stated, suggesting his “secondary role” at the club might be behind the antipathy.

All eyes will now be on that January 8th press conference, where we’ll finally learn whether Muñoz plans to do one or stick around for the long haul. The saga continues in Andalusia!
