Premier League January 2026 Transfer Window: Early Movers and Shakers

The winter transfer window opens with City eyeing Guéhi, Chelsea's managerial shake-up, and several Premier League clubs already making early moves.

Premier League clubs are gearing up for the annual January sales as the 2026 winter transfer window prepares to swing open, offering teams a chance to bolster their squads for the business end of the season.

Top Six Activity

Liverpool, sitting pretty at the top based on last season’s standings, have their eyes on Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi, who’s also attracting interest from Manchester City. The Reds haven’t confirmed any deals yet, but watch this space.

Arsenal remain quiet for now, while Manchester City have been more active:

  • Outgoing: Jahmai Simpson-Pusey loaned to German side Cologne
  • Returning: Max Alleyne (Watford) and Claudio Echeverri (Bayer Leverkusen) back from loan spells
  • Targets: Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Palace’s Marc Guéhi on their radar

Chelsea have made the most dramatic move with a complete change in the dugout:

  • Enzo Maresca out as manager
  • Liam Rosenior in, arriving from Strasbourg

Newcastle have sent Spanish youngster Antoñito Cordero to Cádiz on loan after he returned from his spell at Belgian side Westerlo. The Magpies are reportedly interested in Wolves striker Jörgen Strand Larsen.

Aston Villa have secured Brazilian talent Alysson from Gremio, making an early statement in the window.

Mid-Table Manoeuvres

Nottingham Forest are looking at Spanish defensive options with interest in Sevilla’s José Ángel Carmona and Mallorca’s Pablo Maffeo, while Arnaud Kalimuendo has departed on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Brighton have pulled off a proper Bobby Dazzler by bringing Pascal Gross back from Borussia Dortmund, while they’re also eyeing Ukrainian defender Mykola Matvienko.

Bournemouth have signed veteran keeper Fraser Forster on a free transfer and loaned Julián Araujo to Celtic. They’re reportedly interested in Chelsea defender Axel Disasi.

London Clubs Making Moves

Crystal Palace have completed a significant deal by signing Brennan Johnson from Tottenham, while sending Romain Esse on loan to Coventry City.

West Ham have been busy:

  • Incoming: Taty Castellanos from Lazio and Pablo from Portuguese side Gil Vicente
  • Outgoing: Niclas Füllkrug loaned to AC Milan and Luís Guilherme to Sporting Lisbon

Tottenham have offloaded several players including Johnson to Palace, Manor Solomon on loan to Fiorentina, and Kota Takai to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Manchester United, looking to bounce back from a disappointing season, have parted ways with manager Rúben Amorim and are reportedly interested in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.

Promoted sides Leeds United, Burnley and Sunderland are relatively quiet so far, though Sunderland have loaned Timothée Pembélé to Le Havre and are interested in Bologna defender Jhon Lucumí.

Everton are reportedly looking at Sevilla’s Juanlu and Lyon’s Malick Fofana as they aim to strengthen their squad for the second half of the campaign.
