PSG eyeing Kimmich and Leao as Ligue 1 January transfer window opens

A look at the key winter transfer activity across Ligue 1 clubs as the January window opens, with PSG targeting big names and Lyon securing Endrick on loan from Madrid.

The January transfer window is upon us and French clubs are ready for their winter shopping spree, with some potentially tasty moves on the cards across Ligue 1.

PSG targeting European stars

Paris Saint-Germain appear to be aiming big this winter, with Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao both on their radar. The French champions seem determined to strengthen their squad for the business end of the season with these two established European stars.

Lyon land Real Madrid wonderkid

Olympique Lyonnais have pulled off quite the coup by securing Brazilian sensation Endrick on loan from Real Madrid. The young forward will be joined at Lyon by experienced Dutch right-back Hans Hateboer, who arrives on loan from Stade Rennais. Going the other way, Saël Kumbedi has made a permanent move to Wolfsburg after initially being there on loan.

Managerial musical chairs at Strasbourg

Strasbourg have made a surprising managerial change, bringing in Gary O’Neil after losing Liam Rosenior to Chelsea. The English connection at the club continues as they’re reportedly interested in Nottingham Forest’s James McAtee.

Other notable moves

  • Nice have secured Elye Wahi on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Lens have signed Amadou Haidara from RB Leipzig but lost Deiver Machado to Nantes
  • Auxerre have picked up Naouirou Ahamada on a free from Crystal Palace
  • Nantes have added experience with Rémy Cabella joining on loan from Olympiacos

Multiple clubs chasing Portuguese talent

Both Nice and Lille are showing interest in Brayan Medina from Portuguese side Tondela, setting up a potential battle for the player’s signature this January.

Monaco eyeing Premier League midfielder

AS Monaco have their sights on Leicester City’s Boubakary Soumaré as they look to bolster their midfield options for the second half of the campaign.

With the transfer window open until the end of January, expect plenty more movement as clubs look to strengthen their squads for the remainder of the season. The usual mix of loans, free transfers and permanent deals will shape how the Ligue 1 table looks come May.
