Tevenet Takes Valladolid Reins: 'Until I Use the Scalpel, I Don't Know What I'll Find'
New Real Valladolid boss Luís García Tevenet outlines his vision for the struggling Segunda División side while sporting director Víctor Orta confirms transfer movements.
Fresh from their Christmas turkey, Real Valladolid players returned to training with a new gaffer at the helm as Luís García Tevenet was officially unveiled following Guillermo Almada’s departure to Real Oviedo. The new boss wasted no time setting out his stall for a team currently looking more relegation-threatened than promotion-chasing.
Tevenet’s Vision
The incoming manager struck a confident but cautious tone during his first presser with the blanquivioletas:
- Promised to make Zorrilla “a fortress” - crucial for achieving objectives
- Emphasized bravery without being reckless: “I want this team to be brave, not kamikaze”
- Acknowledged the squad’s youth but highlighted their quality potential
- Will retain Sisi on his coaching staff with another addition pending
Tevenet’s approach seems measured, with the new gaffer admitting he needs time to properly assess what he’s working with. “I have my idea, but until I use the scalpel, I don’t know what I’ll find,” he explained - a proper Adam’s apple of honesty there.
Transfer Talk
Sporting Director Víctor Orta also fronted up to the press, providing some tasty transfer tidbits:
- Confirmed signing: Vegard Erlien - described as “a number 10 with the soul of a nine-and-a-half” who “comes from playing and scoring goals”
- Outgoing: Xavi Moreno’s loan move to Sabadell is “advanced”
- Renewal hopes: Orta remains hopeful about Chuki’s contract extension, though less optimistic than before
Almada Aftermath
Orta didn’t shy away from addressing the destabilizing effect of Almada’s unexpected exit, admitting it “hurt” the club despite their “real and well-founded confidence” in the departing coach.
However, he expressed full faith in Tevenet’s credentials, noting: “He’s been capable of being at the highest elite level, I believe the opportunity has come at just the right moment.”
Valladolid fans will be hoping their new boss can quickly diagnose the team’s ailments with that metaphorical scalpel of his and perform the surgery needed to climb the table in 2025.
