Cádiz plotting January moves with Antoñito on radar while fighting to keep Ocampo

Cádiz president Manuel Vizcaíno outlines transfer plans as winter window approaches, with Antonio Cordero targeted and determination to retain Brian Ocampo despite speculation.

Club president Manuel Vizcaíno has lifted the lid on Cádiz’s January transfer plans while visiting the Puerta del Mar University Hospital for the traditional Christmas engagement.

Transfer targets emerging

The Segunda División outfit have firmly placed Antonio Cordero in their sights as they look to strengthen their squad for the second half of the campaign. Vizcaíno played it coy when pressed about the potential deal, acknowledging interest while refusing to jump the gun.

“We have interest in him,” the president admitted about Cordero, “but operations can’t be announced until they’re completed.”

The president’s careful wording suggests negotiations are progressing, though he was quick to add they’d “turn the page and look for alternatives” if needed – classic transfer window speak if I’ve ever heard it!

Ocampo staying put

In a boost for Cádiz supporters, Vizcaíno poured cold water on rumours surrounding Uruguayan winger Brian Ocampo. Despite the Spanish press having a field day with speculation about his future, the president was crystal clear about the club’s intentions:

“Brian will finish the season at Cádiz and if everything goes normally, the club’s interest is to renew him,” he stated firmly.

Vizcaíno believes Ocampo deserves another opportunity at the club, noting that while the talented player has experienced ups and downs due to personal circumstances, he’s currently “happy and content” at Cádiz.

Defensive concerns

When questioned about potential departures, particularly regarding Nigerian defender Efe, Vizcaíno expressed concern about release clauses being triggered or “irrefusable offers” arriving for key players.

The president confirmed there’s interest from other clubs in “a couple” of Cádiz players but maintained they’re determined to keep their core group together. He seemed confident that contractually the club is in a strong position, though acknowledged the reality that release clauses could still be activated.

“The players are happy at the club and well-tied down from a contractual point of view,” he reassured fans, while pragmatically adding: “Whatever happens, happens.”

With the January window about to open its doors, it looks like Cádiz might have a right old busy month ahead of them as they look to strengthen their squad while fighting off interest in their top performers.
