Espanyol's Christmas hospital visits bring joy to little ones

Players from both men's and women's teams spread festive cheer at Barcelona hospitals, continuing a heartwarming club tradition during the holiday season.

Espanyol continued their heartwarming Christmas tradition this week, with players from both the men’s and women’s teams visiting hospitalised children across Barcelona.

Blanquiazul Christmas spirit

It might be the season of goodwill, but some traditions mean more than others. While Espanyol engage in various charitable activities throughout the year, their annual Christmas hospital visits stand out as one of their most touching initiatives.

The club organized two separate delegations on Monday morning, comprising first-team players from both the men’s and women’s squads, alongside club ambassadors, representatives and volunteers. Their mission? To bring some much-needed holiday cheer to youngsters spending Christmas in hospital beds rather than at home with their families.

The Pericos contingent visited two medical facilities:

  • Clínica Corachan: Where Cabrera, Edu Expósito, Ariadna Domènech, Aina Domènech and Meri Muñoz represented the playing staff
  • Hospital HM Nens: Visited by Puado, Pol Lozano, Ruth Frías and Marina Jover

Club representatives including Toni Blanch, former Spanish international Joan Capdevila, Quique Pérez, Iñaki Pérez, Xavi Andreu, Narciso Amigó and Jose Luis Perelló were also present across both locations.

More than just a photo op

This wasn’t just your standard PR exercise. The players spent proper time with the children, distributing gifts, signing autographs, and simply chatting with the youngsters. For many of these kids, meeting their sporting heroes provided a genuine bright spot during what must be a difficult time.

In the dog-eat-dog world of Spanish football, it’s initiatives like this that remind us there’s more to these clubs than what happens on the pitch. Espanyol might be having their ups and downs in the league, but off the field, they’re absolute diamond geezers.

The annual tradition clearly means as much to the club as it does to the children, with Espanyol committing to the initiative year after year, bringing smiles to faces that need them most during the festive period.
