Huesca's winter boost: Mier and Martín return from long-term injuries
SD Huesca receive a double fitness boost ahead of the Segunda División run-in with Javi Mier and Jordi Martín returning to training after lengthy injury layoffs.
Huesca might not have dipped into the transfer market yet, but they’ve already secured two significant ‘additions’ to their squad as the winter window approaches.
Midfielders Javi Mier and Jordi Martín have finally returned to full training after enduring lengthy spells on the treatment table, giving manager Jon Pérez Bolo a timely boost as the Segunda División campaign heats up.
The returning duo
The pair participated in a special open training session at El Alcoraz, where hundreds of supporters gathered to welcome them back to action. It’s been a proper dog and bone for these lads getting back to fitness:
- Javi Mier has been sidelined for nearly a year following arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to address a meniscus problem
- Jordi Martín has been out since April when he suffered a cruciate ligament tear during the Aragonese derby against Real Zaragoza
Match fitness considerations
While their return to training represents a significant boost, Bolo will need to manage their reintegration carefully. Both players will require time to regain match sharpness after such extended absences.
Current squad status
Huesca are preparing for a challenging fixture this Saturday against promotion-chasing Castellón, who currently occupy a playoff position. The Aragonese side are looking to extend their recent good form and put more distance between themselves and the relegation zone, which sits just two points below them.
The only confirmed absentees for the weekend clash are:
- Samuel Ntamack (continuing recovery from a ligament injury suffered a few weeks ago)
- Diego Aznar (long-term injury)
Transfer plans
Despite these returning players, sporting director Ángel Martín González continues to work on strengthening the squad in the January window, with potential new signings expected to arrive soon.
