Racing Santander's stellar 2025: 'Best in 15 years' as promotion push intensifies
Racing Santander celebrate their most successful year in over a decade, with record attendances and a strong position for La Liga promotion as they eye a triumphant 2026.
Racing Santander are closing out 2025 with flying colors, marking what club officials describe as their most impressive year in a decade and a half, with promotion to La Liga now firmly in their sights.
Record-breaking year
The Cantabrian club’s communication director Roberto González hasn’t minced his words, rating 2025 as “outstanding” across all fronts - sporting, social, and economic. Only missing out on promotion prevented it from being absolutely top drawer.
The numbers tell a proper story:
- Highest spectator attendance in club history
- Record season ticket sales
- “No tickets available” signs hung for nine matchdays
- Consistent top-five position throughout the season, mostly as league leaders
Eyes on promotion
With five points separating Racing from third place with just two matches remaining in the first half of the season, the club is no longer shy about their ambitions. González acknowledged that promotion “is now a clear objective” - a far cry from the cautious talk you’d typically expect from a club in their position.
There’s a growing belief within the club that this squad has found the consistency needed for promotion, backed by what they feel is unmatched supporter passion. “We want to go up and I think we deserve it, both Racing and the fans,” González added.
Back to business after Christmas
José Alberto’s squad has already completed two training sessions following the Christmas break, with all eyes on Saturday’s crucial clash against Real Valladolid at the José Zorrilla stadium.
The most notable development has been goalkeeper Jokin Ezkieta’s return to individual training. Meanwhile, Jeremy Arévalo - who looks Adam and Eve to leave during the January transfer window - has been working in the gym alongside academy product Sergio Martínez.
The team has also integrated youth players Álex Laso and Gabi Jiménez from the División de Honor youth team, plus Diego Fuentes ‘Chino’ from Rayo Cantabria.
New Year’s open training
Racing will hold an open training session at El Sardinero on Wednesday, December 31st, allowing younger supporters to end 2026 watching their heroes in action. The players have also continued their tradition of visiting local hospitals and children’s centers to distribute gifts during the festive period.
