Sevilla's injury woes continue as trio miss training again

Vargas, Suazo and Peque remain sidelined as Sevilla prepare for their first match of 2025 against Levante, with Almeyda also missing AFCON-bound stars.

Sevilla’s preparation for their first match of 2025 continues to be hampered by fitness concerns, with three key players still unable to join team training as the year draws to a close.

Injury concerns mount

The penultimate training session of the year at Ciudad Deportiva José Ramón Cisneros Palacios brought no improvement on the injury front for Matías Almeyda’s squad. Rubén Vargas, Peque, and Vicente Suazo all remained absent from group training for the second consecutive day.

Suazo’s situation is particularly concerning for the Nervionenses, with the Chilean suffering a recurrence of his left soleus injury. The midfielder’s stop-start season has been a proper nightmare for both player and club.

AFCON absences

Compounding Almeyda’s selection headaches:

  • Nigerian internationals Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke are unavailable as they prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations
  • This leaves Sevilla potentially short-staffed for their first fixture of 2025
  • The Andalusians host Levante at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Sunday, January 4th (14:00 local time)

Young fans get special access

On a brighter note, the training session welcomed a large group of young Sevilla supporters as part of the club’s ‘Pequeño Guardián’ (Little Guardian) program. The youngsters were treated to a front-row view of their heroes in action – a proper Bobby Dazzler of an experience for the little Sevillistas.

With just days remaining before competitive action resumes, Almeyda will be hoping for some positive news from the treatment room as his squad prepares to kick off the new year against Levante.
