Cádiz ring in the New Year with Antonio Cordero capture
The Yellow Submarine have secured Jerez-born winger Antonio Cordero until the end of the season, bringing the promising talent back to his home province after a spell in Belgium.
Cádiz CF have pulled off a proper New Year’s Eve treat for their supporters with the signing of local lad Antonio Cordero, who joins the club until the end of the current campaign.
Homecoming for Jerez-born talent
Cordero, the young winger born in Jerez de la Frontera in 2006, returns to his home province after a brief stint with Belgian side KVC Westerlo. The club are banking on him to provide the directness and dribbling ability that established him as one of Spanish football’s brightest prospects.
The 19-year-old’s career has been marked by precocious talent. After developing in elite academies including Real Betis, Málaga and indeed Cádiz themselves, he truly made his breakthrough with Málaga where he became instrumental in their promotion to professional football at just 17 years of age.
Impressive pedigree
Last season’s performances in LaLiga Hypermotion caught plenty of attention, with the youngster notching 6 goals in 39 appearances - form so impressive it reportedly had Newcastle United sniffing around. The Spain U18 international now returns to his roots to continue his development at the Nuevo Mirandilla.
Straight to work
The deal has been wrapped up at lightning speed to get Cordero integrated into the squad as quickly as possible. Despite the holiday season being in full swing, the winger is already in Cádiz and will be training under manager Gaizka Garitano’s watchful eye from tomorrow.
This strategic move shows Cádiz’s ambition to kick on in the second half of the season, leveraging the versatility and goalscoring instincts of a player who’s already proven he can carry a team during crucial moments.
With the January transfer window just opening, Cádiz have wasted no time sorting their first bit of business. The Yellow Submarine faithful will be hoping their new signing can help them navigate the choppy waters of the Segunda División and steer them toward calmer seas in the new year.
