Bordalás desperate for Getafe reinforcements: 'We need many, not just one or two'
Getafe boss José Bordalás has issued an urgent plea for multiple signings after his depleted squad battled to a draw against Rayo Vallecano.
Getafe manager José Bordalás has made it crystal clear his squad needs immediate strengthening after scraping a hard-fought point against Rayo Vallecano with a makeshift team.
Survival mode
The Azulones are currently operating in what Bordalás describes as “survival mode” each matchday. With injuries piling up and the squad stretched to breaking point, the gaffer was forced to field several youth team players who’d barely had a training session with the first team.
“The point has enormous merit,” Bordalás explained after the match. “We’re down to the bare bones, finishing with lads from the reserves - it’s a survival exercise week after week.”
The situation has become dire with Getafe now missing both first-choice centre-backs, adding to an already lengthy injury list that has left the manager with limited options despite sitting on a respectable 21 points in the table.
Transfer desperation
Bordalás couldn’t have been clearer about the club’s transfer needs, delivering what sounds like an ultimatum to the board:
“The team needs signings imminently. We’re not talking about one player or two - we’re talking about many,” he stressed. “Other teams are strengthening, but that’s not our case. We could be the only professional football team with five free registration spots.”
When questioned about specific targets including Chimy Ávila, Bordalás remained tight-lipped, refusing to discuss individual players until deals are completed, though he acknowledged that “there are many players who could help and contribute.”
Sancris substitution
The match also saw Bordalás make a tactical change with Álex Sancris being substituted - a decision the manager defended as simply doing what he thought was best for the team at that moment.
“There are things you don’t see and consider you can improve,” he explained, pointing out that Sancris’ replacement actually won the free-kick that led to a scoring opportunity.
With the January window now open, Getafe fans will be hoping the club’s hierarchy responds to their manager’s clear call for reinforcements before their season starts heading south. As things stand, it’s all a bit Pete Tong at the Coliseum.
