Espanyol star stokes derby flames with shocking Yamal comment
Pere Milla's controversial remarks about Barça wonderkid Lamine Yamal have added fuel to an already fiery Catalan derby classified as high-risk.
Espanyol forward Pere Milla has dropped a proper clanger ahead of the heated Catalan derby, suggesting he’d like to stamp on Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. Bit naughty, that.
Comedy Show Controversy
Appearing on Betevé’s comedy programme ‘Perico Que Vola’ (a show with Espanyol connections), Milla was asked the cheeky question of who he’d rather step on during the derby - goalkeeper Joan García or wonderkid Lamine Yamal.
After pondering his options, Milla chose Yamal, triggering laughter from the audience. When the hosts joked about potential newspaper headlines saying “Pere Milla wants to step on Lamine Yamal,” the Espanyol man doubled down with: “Pere Milla is going to step on Lamine Yamal.”
High-Risk Classification
This verbal hand grenade comes at a particularly sensitive time, as the upcoming derby has already been classified as high-risk by authorities. Espanyol are implementing extra security measures including:
- Extensive entrance checks for supporters
- Protective nets around both goals to prevent object throwing
- Additional precautions beyond standard derby protocols
Tensions Already Brewing
The atmosphere was already expected to be proper tasty due to Joan García’s return to what was once his home ground. Milla’s comments have only cranked up the temperature several notches for what promises to be a properly heated affair in Catalonia.
While clearly made in a humorous context, these sorts of comments about potentially targeting one of Spain’s brightest young talents won’t go down well with the Barcelona faithful. Expect some serious needle when these two sides meet.
