Girona treat faithful to open training session at Montilivi

Michel's squad held their traditional open training for supporters at Montilivi, with returning players David López and Krapyvtsov boosting the ranks ahead of their next fixture.

Girona’s faithful were treated to a rare glimpse behind the curtain as Michel’s men held their traditional open training session at Montilivi, with fans turning out in droves for a proper football fix to kick off the new year.

Fan-friendly festivities

The blanquivermellos put on quite the show for their supporters, with a session lasting over 90 minutes showcasing various ball-focused exercises. It wasn’t just about the training though - the club went the full monty with:

  • A bustling Fan Zone outside the stadium
  • Gaming areas including ESports setups
  • Food stalls to keep the punters fed and watered
  • Various competitions run by club sponsors

Proper family day out, that - something more Premier League clubs could take note of rather than charging an arm and a leg just to watch the lads do some stretching.

Team news boost

The eagle-eyed supporters would’ve been chuffed to bits seeing David López and Krapyvtsov back in full training. Both appear to have shaken off their injuries and are now available for Michel’s selection - not half bad timing with the business end of the season on the horizon.

Stuani and Abel Ruiz were also spotted, though they only participated partially before heading inside for gym work and physio treatment. The only notable absentees were long-term casualties Portu and Van de Beek, who remain on the treatment table.

Echeverri conspicuous by absence

No sign of the Argentine wonderkid at Montilivi as bureaucratic red tape continues to delay his official unveiling. Before Echeverri can be presented in Girona colours, the club needs to free up a non-EU slot by moving either Solis or Asprilla elsewhere.

The situation’s a proper dog’s dinner - he needs to terminate his arrangement with Leverkusen, return to Manchester City, and then be loaned to the Catalan outfit. Paperwork’s doing everyone’s head in!

The session wrapped up with players signing autographs, posing for selfies and handing out presents including balls, books, and shirts to the delighted supporters. Proper touch of class from the surprise package of Spanish football.
