Pedrola joins Las Palmas on loan as Canary Islanders secure Barcelona talent

Las Palmas have announced the signing of Estanis Pedrola on loan until the end of the season, with manager Luis García Plaza excited about his attacking qualities.

Former Barcelona youngster Estanis Pedrola has completed his move to Las Palmas on loan until the end of the season, becoming the club’s second January signing as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Barcelona academy graduate

The 22-year-old offensive midfielder, who can operate on the right wing or as a number 10, was developed in the youth academies of both Espanyol and Barcelona. He even made his first-team debut for Barça under Xavi Hernández before seeking opportunities elsewhere.

While the official announcement came only today, Pedrola has actually been on the island for several days already, getting settled before the paperwork was finalised.

García Plaza delighted with capture

Las Palmas manager Luis García Plaza couldn’t hide his excitement about the new arrival, having previously encountered Pedrola during youth competitions:

“I’ve seen Pedrola with great enthusiasm and desire,” García Plaza told reporters this morning.

The gaffer believes Pedrola brings something different to his squad:

  • Strong one-v-one ability
  • Powerful running
  • Technical talent
  • Game-changing potential

“It’s a profile we’ve managed to secure thanks to the behind-the-scenes work of the sporting directors, when nobody believed we could get this player,” added the manager, clearly chuffed with pulling off what he considers quite the coup.

Ready for action

Pedrola will be officially presented to the Las Palmas faithful today following the morning training session, which will be open to both press and supporters. The club will be hoping his pace and quality can provide the spark they’ve been looking for in the second half of the campaign.

For Las Palmas, landing a player with Barcelona pedigree represents a proper bit of business as they aim to strengthen their position in the table. The young talent will be keen to show what he can do with regular minutes at the top level.
