Pulido's Huesca future up in the air as Almería circle for January swoop
Huesca boss Jon Pérez Bolo confirms captain Jorge Pulido will start against Castellón despite transfer speculation, with relegation battle looming in Segunda División.
Huesca captain Jorge Pulido finds himself at the centre of transfer speculation with Almería keen to secure his signature during the January window, despite his club’s desire to extend his contract.
Captain’s future uncertain
The Huesca skipper’s contract situation has become a proper headache for the Segunda División outfit. With his current deal set to expire this summer, the club had been planning to offer him fresh terms. However, Almería have thrown a spanner in the works by expressing serious interest in pinching him this month.
Manager Jon Pérez Bolo addressed the elephant in the room during this morning’s press conference, confirming Pulido will start tomorrow against Castellón while leaving the door ajar regarding what happens next.
“I’m only focused on tomorrow’s match. Jorge will be in the starting eleven and hopefully he’ll score again,” Bolo said, before adding that whatever comes after “will be studied and evaluated.”
Relegation dogfight looms
Huesca face a tricky away day at Castalia against one of the surprise packages of the season, with Castellón currently occupying a play-off spot. The visitors sit just two points above the drop zone, though recent results have shown signs of improvement.
There’s a boost for Bolo’s squad with both Jordi Martín and Javi Mier returning to fitness and available for selection – much-needed reinforcements for the relegation scrap ahead.
January transfer plans
The gaffer also dropped some hints about Huesca’s transfer strategy for the winter window:
- Discussions already held with players unlikely to get sufficient minutes
- Working on incoming transfers but acknowledges January is a “complicated” market
- Offers made for potential signings that are currently being considered
“Maybe the Three Kings will be kind and bring us a player,” Bolo quipped, referencing the upcoming Spanish holiday. “We need to stay calm and keep working.”
With Pulido’s situation still up in the air and Huesca fighting for survival, it promises to be an interesting January at El Alcoraz.
