Yeremay: The Second Division's Most Valuable Player in the World
Deportivo's crown jewel Yeremay Hernández now shares the top spot as the most valuable Segunda División player globally, with his market value soaring to €25 million.
Deportivo de La Coruña’s rising star Yeremay Hernández has cemented his status as football’s hottest property outside the top flights, with his market value now making him the joint most valuable player in any second division worldwide.
Market Value Skyrockets
The young Canary Islander has seen his valuation surge to a whopping €25 million, sharing the top spot with Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney according to year-end market valuations. That’s a tidy €5 million increase in just a few months from last season’s figure.
Kennet Eichhorn of Hertha Berlin rounds out the top three in the global second division rankings. What’s particularly striking is that Yeremay’s current valuation already matches Deportivo legends Juan Carlos Valeron and Albert Luque at their career peaks - and the lad’s just getting started!
To put his meteoric rise in perspective, Yeremay now ranks 46th among the most valuable players in Spain’s top flight - despite not actually playing there (yet).
Release Clause and Performance
Deportivo clearly understand the diamond they have on their hands. They’ve moved swiftly to secure his services with:
- Contract extension
- Salary increase
- Franchise player status
- Release clause approaching €50 million
On the pitch, Yeremay’s been absolutely mustard this season. He’s bagged six official goals (seven if you count one credited as an own goal) in 1,651 minutes of play. But the numbers don’t tell the full story - the forward has direct involvement in over 70% of Deportivo’s attacking moves.
Big Clubs Circling
It’s no surprise that the cream of European football have their mince pies on Yeremay. Sporting Lisbon reportedly tabled a €30 million offer last summer, while Barcelona have had him on their radar for over a year.
For now though, Yeremay continues to dazzle for Deportivo, spearheading their promotion push as they aim to return to Spanish football’s top table. The question isn’t if he’ll make the step up to elite football - it’s simply when and with whom.
