Celta rediscover home comforts with Valencia thrashing

After struggling at Balaídos for much of the season, Celta have now strung together consecutive home victories, with Borja Iglesias continuing his stellar form.

Celta Vigo have finally found their groove at Balaídos, bagging back-to-back home wins after spending most of the campaign struggling on their own patch.

Home sweet home

After closing out 2025 with a victory against Athletic Club, the Galicians have kicked off 2026 in style, hammering Valencia to make it two wins on the bounce at Balaídos. For a side that couldn’t buy a home win for months, this sudden transformation has breathed new life into their campaign.

Borja’s brilliant start to 2026

The star of the show was once again Borja Iglesias, who continued his rich vein of form with a brace against Los Che. The Spanish international has now notched an impressive 11 goals this season and shows no signs of slowing down.

Speaking after the match, a delighted Iglesias couldn’t hide his joy: “Very happy to win at home again after the Athletic victory.”

The striker is clearly loving life back in Galicia, adding that 2025 was “incredible” for him personally. Being back home at Celta has rejuvenated his career, and the goals are flowing as a result.

Defensive reshuffle

Claude Puel was forced into a late change when Starfelt dropped out with a back problem. This opened the door for Joseph Aidoo, with the Ghanaian defender making his first appearance at Balaídos this season after previously featuring only in away matches.

Despite this enforced change, Celta looked more solid than they have for much of the campaign. The home crowd finally had something to celebrate after months of disappointment at their beloved Balaídos.

If they can maintain this home form, Celta might be on their way to climbing the table in what’s shaping up to be a promising start to 2026.
