Córdoba slam door shut on Adrián Fuentes exit amid transfer speculation

The Andalusian club have firmly rejected rumours of their star striker leaving in January, while also hinting at potential new signings and contract renewals.

Córdoba CF have categorically ruled out selling top scorer Adrián Fuentes during the January transfer window, putting to bed rumours of a big-money move abroad.

Transfer stance made crystal clear

The club’s CEO Antonio Fernández Monterrubio used the Three Kings Day celebration at El Arcángel stadium to address the speculation head-on, making the club’s position abundantly clear.

“The Córdoba CF has not negotiated and will not negotiate Adrián Fuentes’ departure,” Monterrubio stated firmly, dismissing reports of a €2 million offer from an unnamed foreign club that had been doing the rounds in Spanish media.

It’s a proper show of intent from the Andalusian outfit, who clearly see Fuentes as central to their plans moving forward. Can’t say I’m surprised – you don’t let your main goal-getter walk out the door mid-season unless someone’s offering you the crown jewels.

Potential incomings and a bit of banter

Monterrubio also addressed transfer rumours linking Córdoba with several players, including Álvaro García from Mérida, though he kept his cards close to his chest.

“Some names you get right, others make us smile in surprise,” he remarked, suggesting the rumour mill isn’t always hitting the bullseye. However, he did hint that the club might accelerate some of next season’s planned business, similar to how they brought in Pedro Ortiz.

Contract renewals on the horizon

The CEO revealed that contract renewal discussions with several players are in the pipeline, but had been deliberately delayed until after manager Iván Ania’s extension was sorted.

“We wanted Ania’s renewal to be our gift to the fans for Three Kings Day,” he explained, highlighting the club’s prioritisation of managerial stability before addressing player contracts.

Sporting department security

Perhaps most interestingly for the long-term, Monterrubio confirmed that both sporting director Juanito and technical secretary Raúl Cámara feature in the club’s future plans.

“Consolidating a project means maintaining the pillars that work,” he said, suggesting that once the January transfer window closes, proper discussions about their futures will take place.

Looks like Córdoba are playing a blinder here – keeping their star striker, backing their manager, and maintaining continuity in the sporting department. That’s what I call proper planning, not just a load of old Barney Rubble.
