Getafe and La Liga at loggerheads over Uche transfer saga

Ángel Torres fighting to unlock transfer funds from Crystal Palace deal, with Bordalás desperate for reinforcements as Getafe's winter window hangs in the balance.

Getafe’s winter transfer plans have hit a major roadblock as club president Ángel Torres battles La Liga over financial regulations linked to Christantus Uche’s summer move to Crystal Palace.

The Uche situation

The azulones thought they’d be laughing all the way to the bank after shipping Uche off to South London for a tidy sum of €20 million in the dying moments of the summer window. There’s just one small problem – that money is only guaranteed if the Nigerian makes ten starts for Palace, something that’s looking about as likely as me turning down a pint on matchday.

Oliver Glasner, Palace’s gaffer, hasn’t exactly been giving Uche much of a look-in, leaving Getafe in a right two and eight over their winter transfer plans.

The auditing drama

This is where it gets proper messy:

  • Initially, Getafe’s auditor told La Liga the €20m payment was probable, allowing them to register six players on deadline day
  • In their final accounts, the same auditor changed tune, no longer considering the payment likely
  • La Liga promptly adjusted Getafe’s salary limit and effectively slammed the door on new signings

Bordalás desperate for reinforcements

Meanwhile, manager José Bordalás isn’t exactly keeping schtum about needing new blood. After their recent match against Rayo Vallecano, he made it crystal clear: “We need reinforcements imminently, not just one or two – we’re talking about many.”

Torres fighting the system

Torres has been taking the battle through the proper channels:

  1. First appeal to La Liga’s Economic Control Committee – rejected
  2. Second appeal to the Social Resources Committee – decision pending
  3. Final option would be appealing to the Spanish FA (RFEF)

Speaking to Movistar Plus, Torres made his position clear: “We’re appealing La Liga’s decision and I hope that in a few days, once the holidays are over, it will be resolved and Getafe, which has the balance and can sign players, won’t be prohibited.”

The clock’s ticking for Getafe to sort this mess out before the January window slams shut. Without reinforcements, they could be in for a proper struggle in the second half of the season.
